Yuzi Paradise was created by my father in Guilin in 1996. Home to masterpieces by artists from all over the world, it is a gorgeous natural and cultural wonderland - all set against the stunning backdrop of Guilin's karst rock formations. My father is a man who loves to make fun of himself, and it was this which gave Yuzi Paradise its name (Yuzi Paradise means 'fool's paradise' in Chinese). Everyone said I was foolish to think I could run my own business, but I never gave up on my dream of making Yuzi Paradise a center for art and culture. And with all the fun I've had along the way, I don't regret any of it. Today, 17 years of obsessive determination has yielded a sculptural park that is famous throughout the world.
After so many years, and so much recognition and encouragement from famous people around the world, on November 2011 Yuzi Paradise handed over its grounds to renowned holiday resort operator Club Med. With the help of Club Med's global marketing network, we hope to bring this palace of the arts to the world’s attention. We also hope that that Yuzi Paradise will be offer an unprecedented artistic and holiday experience for guests who expect the best from life.
Enjoyment of the arts and the desire for high quality of life are ideals shared by people throughout the world. For us, this is just the beginning: after 17 years of painstaking effort, only a small percentage of Yuzi Paradise's grounds are complete. We still have a long, long way to go.
Rather than a commercial venture, I prefer to see Yuzi Paradise as a huge work of art. We hope that with everybody's support and through our own passionate efforts, this work of art will slowly edge towards perfection as the years go on.
Our dream was to create a place where culture and the arts could flourish, and it is a dream that has lasted for 20 years. Developing culture and the arts, furthermore, is an indispensable part of the Chinese dream and the renaissance of the Chinese people. The highly international feel of Guilin Club Med is thanks to a uniquely creative and visionary growth strategy. Not only has the resort won extensive praise from the Chinese Government and public, but it has also set a new standard for new luxury international resorts in Guangxi.
During phase two of development, Yuzi Paradise will continue its cultural and artistic dream. It will combine arts and culture with the natural surroundings, doing its utmost to protect natural resources through sustainable development. The result will be a precious spiritual and cultural heritage that can be enjoyed for generations to come.
Zhang Zai, one of the founders of Northern Song, described the life ideals of a Confucian in his famous four-line epithet: 'My life for the people's livelihood, my heart for the world, my learning for the scholars of the future, promoting peace for countless generations to come’. Over the past 20 years we have strived to create a paradise of modern art, and in our plans for phase two of development we will continue to promote culture and the arts. Giving our life for the people’s livelihood, our heart for the world, and promoting peace for countless generations to come using the modest resources of a single company is no easy task, and requires the support of the government and public organizations.
Yuzi Paradise is looking forward to working with the government and public organizations to achieve the Guilin Dream, Guangxi Dream, even the China Dream - and the renaissance of the Chinese people.
